Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the NFL.

The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
